Bruker takes majority stake in organ-on-a-chip maker MIMETAS

What's the rationale? Bruker plans to combine MIMETAS capabilities with its own technologies in proteomics, metabolomics, NMR, preclinical imaging, and spatial biology. "Human physiology-relevant tissue and disease models are becoming increasingly important for understanding disease biology and evaluating therapeutic candidates," said Frank H. Laukien, president and chief executive officer of Bruker.
The signal: Laukien said he expects humanised microphysiological systems to be "increasingly adopted in drug discovery, development and preclinical testing." The bet reflects growing interest in human-relevant model systems as an alternative approach to studying disease and testing compounds.
