UK chemicals pioneer William Blythe merges with US group to form $160M business

The combined business has revenues of more than $160m and global reach.
Who they are: Founded in 1845 and based in Accrington, Lancashire, William Blythe makes chemicals used in electronics, healthcare, building products, defence, automotive, energy, and consumer goods. Its key product areas include flame retardants, thermal stabilisers, absorbents, and catalysts.

What's the endgame? The merger creates an international platform focused on regulated and mission-critical applications, with what H2 called dominant positions in flame retardants and smoke suppressants.
The signal: H2 framed the deal as proof of its ability to combine carve-outs into a larger whole. "The combination of William Blythe and MAC is another example of H2 successfully navigating carve-out and deal complexity and providing hands-on support to create a new market leader," it said.
