The deal, announced August 6, 2026, brings two manufacturing facilities in New Albany, Indiana, and Norfolk, Nebraska, plus about 110 employees.
What does MP Global do? It produces paper-based thermal packaging that protects temperature-sensitive shipments. The technology uses macerated cardboard for insulation and enables curbside recycling where collection systems exist.
What's the endgame? Pregis wants to build a fiber-based cold chain platform, complementing paper-based solutions it has been developing. It will keep serving existing customers while investing to scale the technology.
Why now? The acquisition strengthens Pregis in what it calls the growing cold chain market. It frames sustainable, fiber-based materials as an increasingly important part of its portfolio.
Pregis is repeating a familiar playbook. Its EverTec paper mailer technology, acquired in 2020, scaled to more than one billion mailers a year across five dedicated facilities.
What they said: "Cold chain packaging is a natural extension of that strategy," said Kevin Baudhuin, chairman and chief executive officer of Pregis, pointing to the acquired technology, expertise, and team.
Reid Borgman, who led the MP Global division, joins Pregis as vice president and general manager of cold chain. "Together, we can advance innovation in fiber-based cold chain and expand our portfolio of solutions," he said.
The signal: The deal reflects a broader packaging-industry shift toward recyclable, fiber-based materials as customers chase their own sustainability goals — and a bet that paper can displace plastic in temperature-controlled shipping.
