Owerve raises $4.4M Series A for AI herbal medicine automation
What's the deal? Owerve, a Korean herbal medicine automation startup, has raised 6.2 billion KRW (about $4.4 million) in a Series A round, the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine Development announced on 6 August 2026.
What's the endgame? The company builds AI-driven automation for traditional Korean medicine. Its HAP (Herbal medicine Automatic Pharmaceutical) system links AI with electronic medical records to automate the process from prescription input through manufacturing, cleaning, packaging and inventory management.
Why it matters: Owerve says its integrated platform cuts herbal medicine production time from roughly 300 minutes to about five. It uses cartridge-based refined raw materials and standardised freeze-dried preparations to improve consistency and quality.
Validation: The startup won a CES Innovation Award, granted by the US Consumer Technology Association for technical merit, innovation and design. It also participated in the institute's full-cycle support programme for the oriental medicine industry.
A company representative credited the institute with helping navigate regulatory and licensing hurdles from South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
