What each side brings: Founded in 2001, The Difference Card provides alternative health benefit funding for small and midsized employers. HealthCorum's technology evaluates more than 1,500,000 healthcare providers across more than 90 medical subspecialties, using claims-based measures of clinical effectiveness, cost efficiency, and appropriateness of care.
What's the endgame? HealthCorum's capabilities will be folded into The Difference Card's Provider Lookup Manager Tool (PLUM), steering members toward providers based on quality, cost, and network design. The deal also brings HealthCorum's AI Navigator, which lets members and care navigators search for providers using natural-language questions.
Why now? Rising healthcare costs have pushed employers to seek technology that improves the employee experience while controlling spending. The company says its programs have delivered average annual net savings of 18% and more than $2.13 billion in cumulative healthcare savings.
What they said: Chief executive officer Joseph Donovan said the deal marks "another step" toward improving affordability and decision-making for employers and employees. HealthCorum chief executive officer U.N. Amighi said both companies share the goal of "improving healthcare affordability" through more transparent provider information.
