Diese, formerly owned by the Santos family, sells vinegars and nut creams and was the first brand to market dietary products recognised by Portugal's national health service.
What's the endgame? The acquisition reinforces the company's strategy as a "Casa de Marcas" — a house of Portuguese brands — while diversifying its range with seasonings and nutritious butters. Diese's line includes 100% unfiltered apple cider vinegar with the mother, ginger, or honey, plus peanut butter and almond cream. More product launches are planned in 2026.
Why the rebrand? The new phase gives Diese a lighter, more contemporary image aimed at younger consumers. "The new gamas were designed to be present at different moments of the day, with products that are simple, natural, functional, and full of personality," said Melissa Branco, brand manager at Diese.
The signal: Chief executive officer Carlos Mendes Gonçalves framed the deal around legacy. "It is impossible to talk about the history of healthy eating in Portugal without talking about Diese," he said, adding the goal is to prepare the nearly 70-year-old brand "for a more informed, demanding consumer." The move signals continued consolidation of established Portuguese food brands under a single owner.
