Sicily's Halaesa raises €20M to ride Italy's avocado boom

Why now? The avocado is Italy's fastest-growing tropical fruit. Consumption value rose 47% by 2025, according to the Ismea-Niq Observatory report presented at Macfrut 2026.
The market: Italy imported around 64,209 tonnes of avocados in 2025, up 47% year-on-year. That trade was worth more than €164 million — over 135% higher than in 2020, per the European campaign "Avocados and Mangoes of Europe: Fruit from the Heart," co-funded by the European Union.
What's the endgame? By fivefolding its planted area, Halaesa is betting on domestic supply for a fruit Italy still largely imports. The expansion positions it to capture demand that shows no sign of slowing.
The signal: Rising consumption and a heavy reliance on imports are drawing investor money into local production. Halaesa's round is a bet that Italian-grown avocados can claim a bigger share of a fast-growing market.
