Relu raises $1.75M from repeat backer DIA to expand in the US
What's the deal? ReluDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Belgian startup whose AI platform automates dental lab design work, has raised US$1.13M strategic investment from Dental Innovation Alliance (DIA)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The venture fund also backed Relu's seed round, making this a repeat bet.
What does Relu do? Its pay-per-case platform, Relu Automate, handles the design and administrative work behind lab cases such as night guards, crowns, and dental models. Founded in 2019, the company now processes more than 1 million cases a year for labs across 82 countries.
What's the money for? The capital will strengthen Relu's position in the US market. The startup runs offices in Leuven, Belgium, and Boston.
Why now? US dental labs face rising demand for restorations but a shortage of skilled technicians. Relu pitches AI as a way to lift that constraint.
"A lab's growth used to be capped by how many technicians it could hire and train. AI removes that ceiling," said chief executive officer and co-founder Holger Willems. "This investment lets us bring that to more American labs."
What the backer says: "We backed Relu at the seed stage, and we're investing again because the results speak for themselves," said Thomas Sharpe, managing partner at DIADealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. He cited "growing adoption by leading American labs."
The signal: A follow-on cheque from an existing seed investor is a vote of confidence rather than a fresh outside endorsement. It reflects a wider push to apply AI to labour shortages in specialised trades — here, closing the gap between climbing demand and a thin pool of dental technicians.
