India's Nyai raises $1.5M seed for legal AI tools

What's the deal? NyaiDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Pune-based legal tech startup, has raised $1.5 million in seed funding from Indian family offices, with participation from angel investors. It builds AI tools for India's legal and compliance work, serving law firms, in-house legal teams, and independent practitioners.

What's the endgame? The company will use the money to expand its AI tools for legal research, compliance, and enterprise use in India. Its products cover research, drafting, document review, and legal operations.

How it works: Nyai said its software can run on language models already licensed by clients and supports on-premises deployment for regulated institutions. That approach targets banks and other bodies with strict data rules.

Why now? Nyai pointed to India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which can carry penalties of up to 2.5 billion rupees ($26.2 million) per violation. Tighter compliance demands are pushing legal teams toward automated tools.

The startup was incorporated in March 2025 and is led by co-founders Chinmay Bhosale and Vikrant Labde. Competitors in Indian legal AI include LexOpsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and ClauseoDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →.

The signal: At $1.5 million, the round sits in the bottom third of comparable deals — a modest early bet on a crowded market. But regulatory pressure and the appeal of on-premises AI give focused players a clear pitch to India's regulated institutions.
