Mitsubishi Electric backs quantum optimisation startup Jij in 15th fund deal

What's the deal? Mitsubishi ElectricDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s ME Innovation Fund has invested in JijDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Japanese startup that uses quantum computers to build middleware for mathematical optimisation. The early-stage deal, announced in August 2026, marks the fund's fifteenth investment to date.

What does Jij do? Its JijZept platform helps businesses solve complex problems through mathematical optimisation without requiring specialised expertise. Jij combines optimisation and quantum computing to, in chief executive officer Yu Yamashiro's words, "transform complex business challenges into computational forms."

What's the endgame? Mitsubishi Electric plans to pair Jij's development environment with its own software knowhow and quantum technologies, including interconnection technology for quantum computers. The company aims to build technological superiority in the field and speed up commercial adoption.

Why now? Quantum computing is shifting from research to practical use, with industrial development accelerating. Mitsubishi Electric has named quantum a priority of its R&D strategy.

The signal: Corporate venture arms are moving early to secure positions in quantum, betting that startups like Jij can bridge the gap between experimental hardware and real business applications.
