What each side brings: H.M. Royal adds technical expertise and long-standing customer relationships across the East and West Coasts, where it has a strong presence. Univar, a global specialty chemical and ingredient distributor, contributes broader scale, a large logistics network, and digital tools.
What changes for customers? H.M. Royal clients gain access to Univar's wider portfolio and supply continuity, while keeping the technical support central to the smaller firm's business. Univar says it will preserve H.M. Royal's supplier relationships and market focus.
Why it matters: The deal creates what Univar calls "a more connected platform in rubber and plastics," in the words of Matthew Oliver, senior vice president of Performance Materials. It expands the company's footprint in adhesives, sealants, and protective coatings.
The signal: The acquisition reflects continued consolidation among chemical distributors, as larger players absorb specialised, regional firms to widen product access and technical reach. For Univar, folding in a century-old name deepens its US presence in performance materials without building expertise from scratch.
