American Family to buy Bowhead Specialty in $1.2B cash deal

It is funding the purchase entirely through cash and liquid investments, with no financing conditions.

Bowhead provides casualty, professional liability, and healthcare liability insurance through two underwriting models: a "craft" model for large, complex risks and a "digital" model — including Baleen Specialty and small-business offerings — for smaller, scalable business. American Family said the deal supports its plan to diversify its commercial portfolio, broaden products, and improve capital efficiency.
