VARYTEX buys AXIS's online kampo service with 160,000 LINE followers

What's the deal? VARYTEXDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Tokyo-based startup focused on digitising kampo (traditional Japanese herbal medicine), has acquired the "Watashi Kampo" online consultation service from AXISDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a company in the Aisei PharmacyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → group. The deal closed August 1, 2026. Terms were not disclosed.

What each side brings: Watashi Kampo lets users consult kampo-trained pharmacists via LINE, with recommendations, purchases, and ongoing support handled entirely online. The service has more than 160,000 LINE followers nationwide. VARYTEX, founded in March 2021, has built kampo expertise and technology in partnership with academic societies and medical institutions under the theme "digitising kampo."

What's the endgame? VARYTEX plans to combine its technology and specialist network with Watashi Kampo's consumer reach and consultation know-how. It aims to expand beyond herbal medicine into daily wellness and medicinal-food products, and to build ties with medical institutions that route users to care when needed.

Why now? VARYTEX says it wanted to create more "opportunities to encounter the right kampo medicine," a goal that hinges on tailoring choices to each person's constitution and lifestyle. The AXIS connection gave it an established consumer base to build on.

What changes for customers? Nothing, for now. Existing Watashi Kampo users need take no action and can keep using the service as before, despite the change in operator.

The signal: The deal reflects a wider push to layer AI and digital tools onto Japan's traditional medicine market, pairing human pharmacist consultations with automated support. By buying an existing service rather than building one, VARYTEX shortcuts its path to scale in the kampo and preventive-health space.
