What does Class Technology do? Founded 30 years ago, it develops solutions tied to the bill of materials (BOM), the core information behind manufacturing. Its offerings combine packaged software, consulting, and engineering. Its main product is "ECObjects," a production-management solution built on an integrated BOM, alongside "Celb," a monthly subscription cloud BOM service. The company serves large, mid-sized, and small manufacturers.
Why now? In its medium-term plan for the years through March 2029, Genetec set targets of ¥16 billion in revenue, ¥1.4 billion in operating profit, and a 9% operating margin. It calls M&A one of its most important measures for hitting those goals.
What's the endgame? Genetec grew mainly through contract development, then shifted after its 2020 listing toward what it calls "the revival and resurgence of Japanese manufacturing." It now aims to become a "total solution partner," with packaged, service- and solution-based business at the core. The acquisition strengthens high-value package offerings that don't depend on the person-month model, Genetec says. It expects the deal to lift profitability, improve capital efficiency, and expand recurring revenue.
The signal: As manufacturers push into digital transformation, demand is rising fast for integrated tools spanning design, production, and production management. Genetec has named this space a strategic domain and plans to expand its solution portfolio and licence business around it.
