Alma Bank buys American Community Bank to build $2B New York lender

What's the endgame? The combined bank expects roughly $2.0 billion in total assets and about 21 banking offices — 19 full-service branches and two additional offices — across the New York metropolitan area. The deal establishes a presence along the Queens and Long Island corridor, plus Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Northern New Jersey.
What changes for customers? Clients gain greater lending capacity, expanded treasury and cash management services, local wealth management, and continued investment in digital banking. Both banks say customers will keep working with the bankers they know.
Why it fits: Both lenders emphasise relationship banking, local decision-making, and client service. "The strong cultural alignment between our organizations makes this a natural next chapter for both institutions," said Anthony Capobianco, president and chief executive officer of American Community Bank.
Michael P. Psyllos, president and chief executive officer of Alma Bank, framed the logic in people terms. "This partnership is grounded in a shared belief that banking is, first and foremost, about people," he said, adding that the two firms are "investing in people, technology and communities, not simply combining assets."
The signal: The tie-up reflects continued consolidation among smaller US community banks seeking scale to fund technology and lending while defending local relationships. At roughly $2.0 billion in assets, the combined lender aims to compete on breadth without shedding its neighbourhood footprint.
