Ecoterra raises $1M from Capibara to expand in Colombia
What's the deal? EcoterraDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Chilean agrifoodtech founded 15 years ago by Pablo Albarrán, has raised $1 million from Capibara Fideicomiso de Impacto, a fund created by the founders of Movimiento B. The round values the company at $16 million and marks Capibara's first investment in Latin America.
The structure: The $1 million split evenly. Capibara put $500,000 into share purchases and $500,000 into redeemable equity, a structure that lets Ecoterra gradually buy back that stake with future profits from year four onwards, reducing founder dilution.
Why now? The round wasn't on Ecoterra's calendar — it planned to raise only in 2027. Capibara approached the company in August 2025, and the two closed the deal 10 months later. It was designed to fund expansion without straining cash flow.
What's the endgame? Ecoterra connects producers, consumers, and commercial partners through blockchain technology, backing product traceability and certifications. It reports annual sales near $5 million and EBITDA above 10%, and its network already exceeds 250 producers across Chile and Colombia.
The new capital will strengthen its commercial presence in Bogotá and Medellín, add Colombian producers, and consolidate its eggs, dairy, and coffee categories. Ecoterra has operated in Colombia for two years, growing at more than 100% annually, with Mexico as the next step.
One more thing: Alongside the round, Ecoterra launched what it says is the first organic milk produced in Chile, now sold in JumboDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → supermarkets. The milk comes from cows raised on certified organic pastures, without synthetic fertilisers, pesticides, or genetically modified feed.
The signal: "I wanted to prove that the industrial food model can be replaced," Albarrán said, calling his vision "the Nestlé that Latin America needs." The deal reflects growing impact-focused capital targeting traceable, sustainable food supply chains at regional scale.
