Abu Dhabi's TAQA raises $750M in region's largest blue bond
What's the deal? Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQADealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →) has issued a $750 million blue bond via private placement to fund water projects. The five-year deal is the largest blue bond in the EMEA region and the first issued by a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) government-related entity.
What's the endgame? Blue bonds raise capital specifically for water and ocean-related projects. TAQA, a major utility across power and water, will direct the proceeds toward water infrastructure.
Why now? The issuance builds on a strong year for TAQA, which recorded total net income of Dh7.5 billion for 2025 and reached financial closing on the 1GW Al Dhafra Power Plant.
The signal: The deal ranks among the largest post-IPO debt raises in United Arab Emirates energy over the past four years, sitting in the 90th percentile of 452 comparable rounds. As a regional first, it points to growing appetite for sustainability-linked financing across the Gulf.
