What's the endgame? Allianz projects the deal will lift its market share in Portugal by 2.3 percentage points. At the end of 2025, Caravela had a network of more than 800 brokers across the country.
Why now? Advanced talks were reported in early June 2026, after news earlier in 2026 that Toscafund and other minority shareholders were exploring a sale.
What could go wrong? The deal still needs regulatory clearance from the Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority (ASF) and the Competition Authority (AdC).
The signal: The acquisition extends consolidation in Portugal's insurance market, with a global player absorbing a mid-sized domestic insurer and its broker network to expand its footprint.
