Why the ingredient matters: Fortetropin works by modulating myostatin, the body's natural regulator of muscle mass. It has been shown to improve mobility and slow muscle loss tied to aging, injury, or surgery, backed by more than a dozen clinical studies across dogs, cats, and horses.
What's the endgame? The acquisition moves PetIQ into muscle health, a category it calls fast-growing. MYOS products become a core offering in its portfolio, keeping the existing MYOS brand and Fortetropin names.
Why now? "Pet parents are increasingly looking for solutions that support their pets' mobility, recovery, and long-term vitality — not just treatment after a problem arises," said Camillo Pane, chief executive officer of PetIQ.

"PetIQ's distribution reach, brand-building expertise, and operating discipline are exactly what MYOS and Fortetropin need to realize their full potential," said Joe Mannello, chief executive officer of MYOS.
The signal: The deal reflects a shift toward preventive pet care and science-backed products, as owners spend more on longevity and quality of life for their animals. For PetIQ, adding a patented, clinically studied brand deepens a portfolio built largely on flea, tick, and dental products.
