CoreMap lands $37M Series C led by Medtronic for heart-mapping platform

What's the deal? CoreMap, a Burlington, Massachusetts medical-technology company founded in 2016, has closed an oversubscribed $37 million Series C round. MedtronicDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → led the financing, with participation from existing and new investors.

What does CoreMap do? It is developing a next-generation platform to improve the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). Its proprietary high-density mapping technology and data-analytics system are designed to give electrophysiologists AF-ablation guidance built on large sets of highly accurate electrical-activation data.

What's the endgame? The capital accelerates the time-to-market of CoreMap's AF mapping platform. "AF remains one of the most significant unsolved challenges in electrophysiology, and physicians need better data to guide treatment decisions and improve patient outcomes," said Sarah Kalil, chief executive officer and co-founder of CoreMap.

The investor view: "CoreMap is addressing one of the critical unmet needs in AF treatment with a differentiated technology platform and strong clinical support," said Chris Eso, global head of corporate and business development, M&A and ventures at Medtronic.

The signal: A strategic lead from Medtronic — rather than a purely financial backer — points to real medtech appetite for data-driven electrophysiology tools, and positions CoreMap's mapping system for a clearer path into the AF-ablation market.
