Katalyst buys Layer27 in first tuck-in deal after e4n partnership

Terms were not disclosed. Layer27's team joins Katalyst, and clients will keep working with the same people.
Why now? The deal is Katalyst's first tuck-in acquisition since it partnered with e4n in May 2026. It expands the company's presence in the Research Triangle while adding engineering talent and new growth opportunities.
What's the endgame? Layer27's technology stack, vendor relationships, and service delivery will fold into Katalyst's platform over the coming weeks, with continuity of service the top priority. Katalyst says the combined organisation is better positioned to help customers adopt AI while strengthening cybersecurity, cloud, and digital operations.
Founded in 2011, Layer27 delivers managed IT, cybersecurity, and cloud services across the US, and runs a 24/7 security operations centre. Katalyst is a digital operations partner for mid-market organisations, covering hybrid infrastructure, cybersecurity, and cloud environments.
"Layer27 has spent more than a decade building enterprise-grade IT and security expertise for growing businesses, and we're excited to welcome their team to Katalyst," said Luke Johnson, chief executive officer of Katalyst.
Layer27 co-founder and chief executive officer Brad Pierce said clients "keep the same team and the same technical expertise" while gaining access to greater resources.
The signal: The acquisition reflects Katalyst's strategy of pairing organic growth with selected tuck-in deals. For e4n, it marks another step toward what co-founder and chief executive officer Hervé Tessler calls "the leading AI-powered MSP platform for the U.S. mid-market" — a bet on consolidating regional managed services providers around AI adoption and operational scale.
