What's the endgame? The deal gives Micross its first scaled foothold in continental Europe, adding to existing facilities in the United Kingdom and Denmark. AEMtec brings cleanroom sites in Berlin and Dresden, Germany, and Boston, Massachusetts, plus expertise spanning wafer back-end services, wafer testing, chip-on-board, flip chip, 3D integration, and opto packaging.

Who stays on? AEMtec's management team, led by chief executive officer Robert Giertz, will join Micross. "We are delighted to join Micross and together capitalize on the significant growth capabilities of both AEMtec and Micross," Giertz said.

Why now? The acquisition positions Micross closer to leading European customers and expands its manufacturing footprint to support the European defense industrial base. It also broadens the company's advanced packaging, photonics, and test capabilities.

Jim Cannon, chief executive officer of Micross, said AEMtec's "world-class expertise in advanced packaging, photonics and optoelectronics will augment our capabilities and accelerate our ability to deliver cutting-edge solutions to our customers."

The signal: This is the eleventh acquisition under Behrman Capital's ownership and the seventh since a continuation fund transaction in February 2022 — a steady buy-and-build strategy in high-reliability microelectronics. As demand grows for advanced packaging and optoelectronics across defense and semiconductors, Micross is consolidating specialist capabilities and expanding across Europe.
