The key hire: Teo led the angel round and joins as chairman, bringing marine-sector experience to a startup targeting the maritime and transport industries. "We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Teo Teng Seng as Chairman of our Board," said co-founder and chief executive officer Hanson Lee.
What's the endgame? Green COP converts biowaste into biofuels to help customers cut carbon emissions and manage rising carbon-tax costs. It plans to use the funds to build a pilot plant producing one ton of sustainable biofuel a day.
Why now? Green COP has also formed a strategic partnership with a global integrated palm oil player, which it says will boost its capacity to turn biowaste into biofuel. The company frames the pilot plant as its next milestone.
"We are grateful for the trust and confidence demonstrated by our investors," Lee said. "This funding enables us to launch a pilot biofuels plant."
