Kai Medtech raises $70M Series D as state funds back neurovascular devices

What's the deal? Kai Medtech, a Shanghai-based neurovascular medical device developer, has raised nearly 500 million CNY ($69.6 million) in a Series D round. Shanghai Sci-Tech Capital and Minhang Gold Investment co-led the financing.

Who else is in? Taiping Private Equity, Shenzhen Capital Group, Huatai Zijin InvestmentDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Group joined, alongside several returning institutional backers. Most are state-backed vehicles.

What's the endgame? Founded in 2019, Kai Medtech designs, manufactures, and distributes interventional surgical instruments for cerebrovascular diseases. Its product lines include intracranial guidewires, microcatheters, aspiration catheters, and mechanical thrombectomy systems. The company runs research and production facilities across Shanghai and Jiangsu province.

What's the money for? Kai Medtech will use the round to accelerate clinical commercialisation and product research, while expanding international regulatory filings and overseas distribution.

Why now? Government moves to standardise centralised volume-based procurement across public hospitals are reshaping the surgical equipment sector. That shift widens the door for domestic specialists to displace established foreign suppliers.

The signal: Municipal state-backed funds are increasingly filling the growth-stage gap for high-barrier medical hardware as private healthcare venture financing turns more cautious. With cerebrovascular disease a leading cause of adult mortality in China, demand for cost-effective neurointerventional devices is set to keep growing.
