Auctus buys tour operator LMX Touristik to build €350M European travel platform
What's the deal? Munich-based investment firm Auctus Capital PartnersDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has fully acquired German tour operator LMX TouristikDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and folded it into a newly created holding company, Mondiani Group. Founder Markus Hartwig and managing director Lars Ludwig keep their operational roles and have taken stakes in Mondiani Group. The partners disclosed neither the price nor the exact ownership split.
What does LMX do? Founded in 2001 in Leipzig, LMX builds package holidays dynamically, bundling flight capacity and hotel allotments at daily prices only when a customer enquires. With annual revenue of around €350 million, it ranks tenth among tour operators active in Germany.
What's the endgame? Auctus plans to build a European tourism platform, growing LMX organically while acquiring smaller competitors. Auctus is providing equity for the expansion, a significant portion of it raised by the firm's own partners. Unlike short-term financial investors, it says there is no fixed timeline to exit.
Why now? The move fits Auctus's core buy-and-build model: acquire an operationally solid company as a platform, then bolt on succession deals and smaller rivals. LMX was chosen for its technology platform and position in the dynamic packaging segment.
What could go wrong? The gap to Germany's market leaders is wide. Groups like TUIDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Dertour, Schauinsland-Reisen, and Alltours each post billions in revenue and run their own airlines, hotel chains, and travel-agency networks. Closing that distance will require systematic consolidation, not just organic growth.
The signal: Auctus, a 25-year-old owner-managed firm with a sector-agnostic approach, held just one other travel investment before this deal — the international hotel group GSH. Backing LMX signals a bet that a mid-sized, tech-driven operator can be the nucleus for consolidating Europe's fragmented travel market.
