Try Dealroom →, a global leader in technology and products for artificial insemination in the pig industry, according to market sources. The founding Mena Gericó family will keep a stake and continue running the business, with brothers Jesús and Juan José Mena Gericó at the helm.
What does Magapor do? Based in Ejea de los Caballeros, Zaragoza, it works only with pigs and covers nearly the entire value chain — from boar semen extraction, analysis, and dilution to packaging, transport, and insemination. It runs production sites in Spain, China, and Brazil, plus a sales office in the US.
The numbers: Magapor closed 2025 with revenue of roughly €24 million, about 73% of it from abroad, and EBITDA of €8 million. Its clients are mainly insemination centres, pig farms, integrators, and specialist distributors.
What's the endgame? Alongside Artá, the company aims to accelerate growth and internationalisation, strengthen research and development, and cement its global lead in pig reproduction. Magapor already struck a 2019 deal to build China's largest pig-breeding centre, equipping its laboratory.
Why now? The deal is the fifth investment from Artá's third private equity fund, which raised €400 million in November 2024. The others are Ferreira de SáDealroom has a profile for this one. The signal: Spain is the world's third-largest pork producer, behind China and the US, and the EU's top exporter, with sharply rising sales to China and Southeast Asia. Backing a niche insemination-tech supplier lets Artá tap that export momentum without betting on the volatile farming end of the chain.
