TÜV SÜD buys SustainCERT to scale digital carbon verification
What's the deal? TÜV SÜDDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired Luxembourg-based validation and verification body SustainCERT S.A. The deal adds SustainCERT's digital verification platform to TÜV SÜD's assurance business, targeting both compliance and voluntary carbon markets. Terms were not disclosed.
What each side brings: TÜV SÜD has more than two decades of experience verifying emissions across regulated and voluntary markets. SustainCERT is an accredited body specialising in carbon markets and digital Measurement, Reporting and Verification (dMRV).
What's the endgame? The companies want to deliver faster, scalable verification worldwide. "Digital leadership combined with global scale is essential to unlock the next chapter of climate verification," said Marion VerlesDealroom has a profile for this one. Why now? Carbon markets are expanding as governments and businesses chase decarbonisation targets. At the same time, concerns over transparency and the credibility of carbon credits are rising, increasing demand for trusted verification.
SustainCERT's platform uses extensive data and artificial intelligence to speed up audits. Acting as the verification body, it carried out a fully digital audit under VerraDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s digital MRV pilot programme — the first time Verra approved CO2 certificates allowing high-frequency issuance, such as monthly or bi-monthly.
Beyond credits: SustainCERT built the industry's first Carbon Management Platform, letting companies verify, manage, allocate, and report emissions reductions across complex Scope 3 value chains. It also founded the Value Change Initiative, a forum of more than 120 companies, NGOs, and standard setters developing guidance for credible Scope 3 accounting.
The signal: As carbon markets shift toward a regulated system, verification is becoming a strategic asset. "Carbon markets are evolving into a globally regulated system with increasing demand for high-quality, verified emission reductions," said Dr. Céline Bilolo, chief sustainability officer at TÜV SÜD. Pairing legacy assurance with digital tooling is one way established players aim to keep pace with that growth.
