Fundraise

Medyria raises CHF 3.5M to take PyCath catheter to the US

What's the deal? Swiss catheter developer Medyria has raised CHF 3.5 million in a growth equity round to finance FDA clearance and a US launch for its PyCath device.

What's the endgame? Founded in 2012 and based at Technopark Winterthur, Medyria develops blood-flow-velocity sensors and catheter technologies for coronary diagnosis. Its lead product, PyCath, is a sensor-equipped microcatheter that measures blood flow velocity during interventional cardiology procedures.

Where's the money going? The company will use the funds to support its regulatory pathway with the US Food and Drug Administration and lay the operational and commercial groundwork for PyCath's launch in the US healthcare market.

Why now? The round more than doubles Medyria's previous raise — a CHF 1.5 million round closed a year earlier — a step-up that gives it the runway to pursue FDA 510(k) clearance and build out US commercial infrastructure.

What did they say? "Securing this capital is a decisive step forward in our mission to redefine precision and safety in interventional cardiology," said chief executive officer Mauro M. Sette. He added that the funding "gives us the clear runway needed to navigate the FDA 510(k) regulatory framework and build out our commercial infrastructure in the United States."

The signal: The raise reflects a familiar path for European medtech startups: securing growth capital to cross into the larger US market, where regulatory clearance is the gate to scale.
