Mission Critical Group to merge with CORE Transformers to fill data center power gap
What's the deal? Mission Critical GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (MCG) has agreed to merge with CORE TransformersDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a supplier of engineered-to-order transformers for data center, grid, and industrial applications. The Frisco, Texas-based company announced the deal on July 24, 2026, with closing expected within 30 days, subject to customary conditions. Terms were not disclosed.
Who's who? MCG designs, manufactures, and services modular power solutions — including switchgear, e-Houses, and backup power systems — from more than 18 US manufacturing facilities. CORE supplies new, made-to-order, and remanufactured transformers, keeping more than 1,000 units in ready-to-ship inventory and drawing on over 5.5 million square feet of global production capacity.
The rationale: The merger brings the design of the entire powertrain in-house, expanding MCG's transformer capacity and shortening the path from design to deployment. It also lets customers source a broader suite of electrical equipment from a single partner.
What changes? CORE will become part of MCG but keep its brand and existing leadership team. It will continue serving its reseller and distribution customers, delivering custom transformer solutions in as little as 16 weeks.
"Transformers are a natural extension of our integrated power solutions platform, and CORE is the ideal partner to bring that capability to MCG," said Jeff Drees, chief executive officer of Mission Critical Group.
The signal: Transformers have become a bottleneck as data center demand strains the electrical supply chain, with long industry lead times slowing projects. By pairing manufacturing scale with ready inventory, MCG is betting that "speed-to-power" — not just equipment — is what its technology and energy customers now compete on.
