Sandiaga Uno backs Indonesian certification firm MUTU in Rp29.9B private placement

What's the deal? Investor Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has taken a stake in PT Mutuagung Lestari (MUTUDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →) through a Rp29.9 billion (about $1.7 million) private placement. MUTU provides certification, inspection, testing, and verification services across Indonesian industries.

Why now? Uno framed the bet on rising demand for sustainable business practices and compliance with global standards. He argued the shift toward a green economy needs not just clean-energy investment but systems that verify companies meet national and international requirements.

What's the endgame? MUTU wants to help businesses meet certification requirements for both domestic and export markets. Beyond core certification and assurance work, it is expanding into halal certification, food safety, and sustainability services.

Uno said the move is about more than growth. "Bagi kami, investasi ini bukan hanya melihat pertumbuhan bisnis perusahaan," he said, positioning MUTU as part of the foundation Indonesia needs to lift industrial competitiveness.

The signal: The deal tracks the rise of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards as both a business strategy and a gateway to international markets. As compliance demands grow across environmental, food safety, halal, and corporate governance areas, Uno is betting the certification sector expands with them.
