What's the endgame? The company makes C5 Hidden Orthodontics, a system that uses patented nickel titanium wire to straighten teeth without brackets. It sits hidden on the back of the teeth and, unlike clear aligners, requires no patient compliance.

Why now? The round lands as C5 gains traction among orthodontists and general dentists. Alta Smiles said the money will primarily fund commercialisation and market awareness, alongside expanding its technology platform.

Who's joining? Alta Smiles added two board members: Dan McMaster, a former 3M Health Care executive, and Gene Dorff, a former Dentsply SironaDealroom has a profile for this one. "We're impressed by Alta Smiles' strong intellectual property position and the early patient and clinician feedback we've seen," said Barrett Edgington of Run Ventures.

Chief executive officer Gary Giegerich said the company is "pleased to welcome capital and expertise from seasoned venture investors and dental innovators with proven track records of scaling early-stage companies in oral care."

The signal: Backing a bracket-free, compliance-free alternative to both traditional braces and clear aligners, Alta Smiles is betting on a gap in the oral care market — and drawing in investors and executives with deep industry ties to help it get there.
