National Learning Group secures seven-figure round to build tutoring tech

Try Dealroom →, with backing from FW Capital as lead. The company runs one-to-one online tutoring for around 4,000 students a year through more than 350 tutors.
What's the endgame? The money will strengthen the company's infrastructure, including development of proprietary software to improve its tutoring platform. Its services span primary pupils to adult learners, covering GCSE and A-Level prep, adult skills training, and international qualifications.
The hire: Neil Stephenson joins as chairman as part of a senior leadership expansion. He described himself as "an active tech investor with vast experience of scaling businesses rapidly and working alongside institutional funders."
The expansion: National Learning Group plans to establish an Alternative Provision Centre for children unable to attend mainstream education. The centre will also support its move into wider commercial education services.
Why now? Managing director Oliver Batten said the company is "experiencing significant growth" and pointed to "increased demand for accessible high-quality tuition." Corporate finance firm Armstrong WatsonDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, which introduced the two parties, said the business is "growing at an exceptional rate."
The signal: The deal came through the North East Elevate Fund, part of North East mayor Kim McGuinness' £100 million regional investment framework administered by The North East Fund. Alongside the Accelerate and Spinout Inspire funds, it aims to widen early-stage finance for startups and scaleups across the region — channelling public-backed capital into education technology.
