Acel Energy acquired by Entegro in renewables expansion

What's the deal? Kilkenny-based engineering group Entegro has acquired Acel EnergyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Monaghan-headquartered renewable energy specialist focused on solar PV, battery storage and demand management for businesses. The deal value was not disclosed.

What's the endgame? The acquisition marks Entegro's move into the renewable energy sector, extending its expertise beyond fibre telecommunications and network infrastructure. Entegro plans to form a new entity, Entegro Energy, and to grow its workforce from around 200 employees to roughly 300, creating about 100 new jobs. The move also builds on Entegro's partnership with high- and medium-voltage engineering specialist Nahanagan Electrical, bringing renewables generation, battery storage and high-voltage infrastructure capabilities under one roof.

Who's behind it? Established in Kilkenny in 2019 and part of the Kyntus Group, Entegro operates across Ireland, the UK and the US. "This is another milestone for Entegro as we continue to build a multi-utility business across telecoms, power and infrastructure," said group CEO John Rooney. Barry Sherry, managing director at Acel Energy, said joining Entegro lets the team pursue "engineering-led renewable generation and storage" at a scale it "could not reach alone."

The signal: The deal points to continued consolidation among Ireland's engineering and energy-services firms, with acquisitions being used to combine complementary capabilities and add capacity in renewables and critical infrastructure.
