Try Dealroom → has secured a £50 million sustainability-linked loan from HSBC UKDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The social housing provider will use the funding to build new homes and improve existing properties across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.
What's the endgame? The loan supports plans to develop 1,000 homes over the next three years, adding to a portfolio of more than 13,200 properties. It also carries sustainability targets, with Cross Keys committing to environmental improvements and working with local suppliers where possible.
Why now? Ruby Surpal, finance director at Cross Keys Homes, called the deal "a pivotal moment in Cross Keys Homes' journey," saying the backing positions the business for further growth while it continues to invest in the communities it serves.
David Whelan, director of social housing at HSBC UK, said the provider "is a prime example of what clear vision, ambitions to scale and commitment can deliver."
Established in 2004, Cross Keys Homes provides affordable homes for rent and sale alongside community services, including care and support programmes, employment initiatives, and retirement living schemes.
The signal: At £50 million, the loan sits toward the smaller end of the funding spectrum, in roughly the 36th percentile by size. But it reflects continued bank appetite for financing affordable housing tied to environmental commitments — a route for social landlords to expand supply without diluting their community mandate.
