What's the deal? Indian medtech startup Bioscan ResearchDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised $1 million in a seed round led by Unicorn India VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The company builds non-invasive medical devices for early detection of brain injuries.

What's the endgame? Founded in 2017 by Anupam Lavania and Shilpa Malik, Bioscan aims to detect traumatic brain injuries at a pre-symptomatic stage. Its flagship product, Cerebo, is a machine learning-powered device that spots intracranial injuries in trauma patients even without visible symptoms.

Where's the money going? Bioscan plans to use the funds for market expansion, additional regulatory approvals, product upgrades, and new intellectual property.

The company says it grew 5x over the year to mid-2026 and targets 3x growth in the following year, with plans to expand in India and overseas.

Why it matters: More than 50 million people suffer traumatic brain injuries each year, and 50-90% of mild cases go unidentified, according to the company. "We harness light to reveal what the eyes can't see," its co-founders said.

The investor view: "We believe the market is huge and the research is evident on how people are suffering from head injuries and brain trauma every year," said Anil Joshi, managing partner at Unicorn India Ventures. He cited the company's recent progress and technology upgrades.

The signal: At $1 million, the round sits near the middle of comparable seed deals — a modest early cheque for a hardware-heavy medtech play. For Unicorn India Ventures, it extends a run of bets on diagnostics targeting gaps in India's healthcare system.
