Why now? The carbon credits generated by the project will be sold to Switzerland's KliK Foundation under a Mitigation Outcomes Purchase Agreement, executed under the Article 6.2 bilateral implementing agreement between Zambia and Switzerland. That contracted, compliance-driven revenue stream is what made the project financeable with debt rather than grants or equity.

What it means: The deal shows how Article 6.2 offtake agreements are becoming financeable assets — pairing a compliance-backed carbon offtake with debt financing and an insurance overlay turns bilateral climate pacts into collateral that can pull private capital into clean-cooking projects across Africa.
