Avidian buys Ridgeback Capital, expanding its $5.9B Houston footprint
What's the deal? Houston-based Avidian Wealth Solutions has acquired Ridgeback Capital ManagementDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Bellaire, Texas independent investment advisory firm. Ridgeback was founded by Michael C. Kuznicki and has served clients for over 25 years. Terms were not disclosed.
Who's who? Avidian is a 100% employee-owned independent Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) with roughly $5.9 billion in assets under management as of June 30, 2026. Ridgeback brings a Bellaire office and a fiduciary, financial-planning practice into the fold.
What's the endgame? The deal extends Avidian's physical presence in the Houston area. Clients gain access to portfolio management, family wealth and estate strategies, and retirement planning through Avidian's platform. Kuznicki joins as a senior wealth advisor.
Why it matters: Avidian emphasises that it carries no private equity ownership, running an advisor-driven model. "This union allows us to expand our footprint in the Houston area while delivering a robust boutique family office experience," said chief executive officer Luke Patterson.
The strategy: Jim Atkinson, managing partner and head of M&A, called the acquisition "a strong strategic fit" that adds "exceptional talent and operational depth." The firm says it grows through selective deals that prioritise cultural fit and client continuity.
The signal: Independent RIAs are consolidating fast, and much of the sector's growth is fuelled by private equity. Avidian's pitch — expanding while staying employee-owned — positions it as an alternative to that model as advisory firms across Texas and beyond bulk up.
