Machine Discovery raises $9.45M to speed up chip circuit verification

What's the deal? Machine Discovery, the AI company behind Mach42, has closed a $9.45 million early-stage round to accelerate analog circuit simulation for semiconductor design. IP GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → led the round, with existing backers BGF and Foresight GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → participating.

What's the endgame? Mach42 uses machine learning to build high-accuracy models that cut development time and computational costs, integrating faster simulation into existing electronic design automation workflows. It is focused first on power management devices, where the tools work alongside SPICE simulators to shorten design cycles.

Why now? Demand for more powerful, efficient chips is raising design complexity and straining engineering teams. Analog circuit verification is a key pressure point, where current approaches lag market need. "Better tools can have a clear impact on productivity and speed to market," said Lee Thornton, deeptech partner at IP Group.

The money will scale Mach42's engineering and business development teams and push commercial adoption. The wider analog chip market is estimated at around $100 billion across multiple device classes.

By the numbers: The round sits in the top 5% by size among all-time early-stage venture deals for engineering and manufacturing equipment companies in the UK, based on a sample of 67 rounds.

The signal: As chipmakers chase efficiency, the tools that verify silicon before manufacture are drawing fresh capital. Mach42's chair, Tim Haynes, expects the industry to "see a surge in compute demand as agentic design flows take hold" over the next two years — positioning verification software as a bet on how chips get designed next.
