National Banking Corporation raises K200M ahead of 2028 IPO

What's the deal? National Banking CorporationDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Limited (NBCL) has raised more than K200 million (about $44.7 million) in new capital from investors in Papua New Guinea. The private placement priced shares between K0.60 and K0.70 each through a book-build process.

Why now? The raise strengthens NBCL's balance sheet as it works towards an initial public offering on the Papua New Guinea Stock Exchange, targeted for the first quarter of 2028.

What's the endgame? Chairman Darrell Seeto said the funds provide "a solid foundation to accelerate growth, enhance our product and services, and deliver greater value to our customers and shareholders." He framed the round as part of NBCL's shift from a government micro-bank to a fully fledged commercial bank.

By the numbers: Demand at the top price of K0.70 exceeded the board's expectations, according to Seeto, who noted the bank is profitable in only its second year as a commercial bank.

The signal: The deal ranks in the 91st percentile among private placement rounds in Papua New Guinea over the trailing 48 months, based on a sample of 191 deals — a large raise by local standards and a marker of the bank's push towards independence and a public listing.
