Who is Gregg? Founded in Edmonton in 1968, Gregg sells maintenance, repair, and operations products — power tools, hoses, safety equipment, medical supplies, lighting, and automotive parts — sourced from about 500 suppliers. It serves roughly 20,000 customers spanning automotive, agriculture, energy, and construction.
What changes? Brookfield will buy out the Gregg family and some employee shares, though employees keep a stake. The roughly 1,000-person workforce and senior management stay on, and Brookfield says it won't overhaul strategy — focusing instead on go-to-market, data, and automation.
Why now? Gregg's oil field, construction, and trucking clients have steady demand for low-cost products "that they just can't operate without," Brookfield managing partner Erson Olivan said. Renewed focus on energy security in Canada, including new liquefied natural gas facilities and pipelines, could provide "some tailwinds," he added.
