How it grew: The brand built demand online first, generating more than 2 billion organic video views across TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. It has amassed the largest YouTube subscriber base of any sour candy brand and become the largest sour candy brand on TikTok Shop, fuelled by monthly launches and collaborations with figures such as NHL star Trevor Zegras, PAC-MAN and G FUEL.
"We are the fastest-growing sour snack brand in the country," said co-founder and general manager James Hicks. "Our customers have shown there is demand for a better sour snack made with real dried fruit instead of artificial gummy candy."
The backstory: Final Boss Sour was built in the startup studio of Science Inc., which previously created Dollar Shave Club and Liquid Death. Since launching in October 2023, the company has raised $12 million in total.
"The team built demand through content and community first, then translated that momentum into retail expansion," said Michael Jones, general partner at Science Inc. "That's a powerful validation for a viral snack."
The signal: The round is modest — it sits in roughly the bottom sixth of comparable deals by size — but the play is bigger than the check. Final Boss Sour is testing whether a social-first brand can convert billions of views into shelf space across America's largest retailers.
