What's the endgame? The capital will primarily fund the rollout of BillyQ, Poolhouse's platform that turns traditional pool tables into interactive gaming experiences via computer vision, projection technology, and real-time player analytics. The system enables automated scoring, digital overlays, and skill-based handicapping so players of varying abilities can compete evenly. Why now? Poolhouse aims to modernise pool much as Topgolf transformed golf. Its founders see cue sports — with more than 200 million weekly players worldwide and an estimated $35 billion addressable market — as underserved by modern technology.
What's the bigger business? While its flagship London venue near Liverpool Street serves as a public showcase, management views licensing BillyQ as the larger opportunity. Chief executive officer Andrew O'Brien said the funding will expand the platform into hotels, casinos, pool halls, and bars, building recurring revenue. A residential version is also planned to add digital coaching and tracking to home tables.
Bluestone founder and managing partner Bobby Sharma said cue sports remain "significantly underserved by modern technology infrastructure." Co-founder Steve Jolliffe called Bluestone an ideal partner for international expansion.
The signal: The round sits in the 54th percentile by size — a mid-sized bet on the "competitive socialising" category that Topgolf and Puttshack pioneered. Poolhouse is wagering that the technology proven in golf and mini-golf can repeat across one of the world's largest participation sports.
