Bain Capital strikes $1B-plus deal for UK's Vitabiotics

What does Vitabiotics do? Founded by Indian-origin entrepreneur Dr Kartar Lalvani, the firm makes vitamins and supplements under brands including Wellman, Wellwoman, Perfectil, Pregnacare, and Osteocare. It operates across the UK, China, and India, where its arm Meyer Vitabiotics sells the Calcimax brand.
Why now? Bain edged out rival funds EQTDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and TPG Capital to emerge as front-runner, the Economic Times reported in April 2026. Discussions are also underway to bring in a co-investor to join in a small capacity, though no final decision has been taken.
What's the endgame? The deal adds a fast-growing consumer healthcare asset to Bain's portfolio. Vitabiotics exports to over 100 countries and in 2013 became the first vitamin company to receive the Queen's Award for Innovation.
Bain earlier in 2026 closed its Asia Fund VI at $10.5 billion in total capital, including roughly $9.1 billion of external commitments — above its $7 billion target. The firm declined to comment; Vitabiotics did not respond.
The signal: The deal underscores heavy dealmaking in nutraceuticals. Recent moves include USV Pharma taking a majority stake in Wellbeing Nutrition for Rs 1,583 crore and HUL buying the rest of OZiva parent Zywie Ventures for Rs 824 crore, while private equity firms including Warburg Pincus and Goldman Sachs Private Equity are circling India's Universal NutriScience.
