What each side brings: Áreas, based in Esplugues de Llobregat near Barcelona, runs food and retail outlets at airports, train stations, and motorways. TRGC operates its UK airport locations under brands including Wagamama and Giraffe.

Why now? The UK is Europe's second-largest market for airport, rail, and motorway dining and retail. The acquisition gives Áreas a foothold in a market where it had no presence.

What's the endgame? Áreas wants to reach €3 billion in revenue. The company posted €2.264 billion in sales last year, with €250 million in EBITDA, and had targeted €2.7 billion for 2026 — a goal the €240 million from TRGC helps advance.

Serial dealmaking: The purchase follows Áreas' acquisition in autumn 2025 of US firm Travel Hospitality Services. The group, led by Óscar Vela and owned by French private equity firm PAI PartnersDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, is expanding through repeated acquisitions.

The signal: Áreas is consolidating the fragmented travel dining sector through cross-border buyouts, using scale to move toward its €3 billion revenue ambition.
