Kitwave buys Scotland's Fife Creamery to expand north of the border

What's the endgame? The acquisition advances Kitwave's growth plans north of the border, positioning Fife Creamery at the heart of its Scottish operations. Kitwave operates a network of 37 depots.

What changes? Not much for now. Kitwave has committed to preserving the Fife Creamery brand and operations, and told customers and suppliers there will be no change to day-to-day business. The existing leadership structure, including the managing director, stays in place.

Why now? The founders, the Simpson family, are planning to step back. The deal secures the company's long-term future while providing investment, scale, and support.

"Fife Creamery has established itself as one of Scotland's most respected food wholesalers, with a strong market position, an experienced leadership team and a customer-focused approach that aligns closely with our own values," said Ben Maxted, chief executive at Kitwave.

Maxted added that the deal "represents an important step in our long-term growth strategy," with plans to invest in the Kirkcaldy business.

The signal: The acquisition reflects continued consolidation in UK food wholesale, as larger players expand regionally and buy out founder-led firms nearing succession.
