YouStock buys 160-year-old Bedel to build European storage champion

What's the deal? YouStockDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a French storage startup founded in 2015, has acquired BedelDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, France's oldest furniture-storage brand, founded in 1866. The move is part of a build-up strategy to create a European leader in storage, transfer, and bulk logistics. Terms were not disclosed.

What each side brings: Bedel handles complex projects for large accounts — hospitals, libraries, hotels, and institutional moves. YouStock digitised the sector with a "Storage as a Service" platform offering on-site collection, photo inventory, and volume-based pricing.

What changes? YouStock does not plan to overhaul Bedel. Instead, it will equip Bedel's operations with its proprietary tools: online inventories, QR-code tracking, and optimised logistics.

Why it matters: More than 500,000 French small and medium-sized enterprises will need new owners within a decade as their leaders retire. YouStock is positioning itself as a buyer that preserves historic expertise while adding technology.

"Passing the baton after 160 years of history is a strong act. With YouStock, I found a team that wants to grow Bedel, not erase it," said Laurent Levy, head of Bedel.

What's the endgame? Bedel is the group's second major acquisition in under two years, after buying London-based Stored in early 2024. YouStock now covers the full market — from an individual storing a few boxes via an app to institutional clients needing transfers of several thousand cubic metres.

The company operates in seven European cities, including Paris, London, Brussels, and Monaco, managing more than 26,000m³ of storage for over 17,500 clients. It aims to triple in size within five years by continuing to fold in traditional operators.

"We build on what they created: a reputation and solid teams, and we give them the tools to go even further. That is the essence of our build-up strategy," said Pierre Charvet, chief executive officer of YouStock. YouStock is backed by Amavi CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. The signal: The deal reflects a growing playbook of tech-enabled startups consolidating fragmented, ageing "brick and mortar" sectors — using SME succession as a runway for scale.
