CSI acquires fintech Qolo to expand commercial banking and embedded finance

What's the deal? Financial software provider CSIDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired Qolo, a fintech that builds treasury solutions and payments infrastructure. The deal is designed to strengthen CSI's commercial banking tools for community financial institutions while extending its reach into the wider fintech and payments market.

What's the endgame? The acquisition adds three main capabilities to CSI's platform: a real-time account ledger, multi-rail payment orchestration, and expanded card issuing across debit, prepaid, virtual, and secured corporate credit programs. Qolo's technology will act as an orchestration layer across payments, accounts, and workflows, integrating with CSI's core banking platform and API tools to deliver pre-integrated commercial banking solutions.

Why now? Businesses increasingly expect faster payments, real-time cash flow visibility, and financial services embedded into daily workflows. That shift creates an opening for community banks: 85% of small and medium-sized businesses say they would choose their primary financial institution over a fintech or larger bank if it offered comparable capabilities, according to Datos Insights.

What's in it for customers? CSI says the deal lets community banks offer modern commercial banking features once reserved for larger institutions, helping them attract and grow business relationships. Qolo's existing fintech and B2B payments customers — who rely on it for card issuing, money movement, virtual account management, and embedded ledgering — will gain access to CSI's scale and compliance resources.

"Community financial institutions are built on trusted relationships, local expertise, and deep knowledge of their markets," said Nancy Langer, president and CEO of CSI. "But businesses in their communities also need sophisticated banking capabilities that simplify and fit more naturally into their day-to-day financial operations."

The signal: "The line between traditional banking and embedded finance is becoming increasingly blurred," said Patricia MontesiDealroom has a profile for this one. As banks, fintechs, and technology providers converge on connected financial experiences, the deal reflects a broader push to consolidate fragmented payment rails and vendors into single, embedded platforms.
