Octra raises $4M pre-seed to build encryption-focused blockchain
What's the deal? Octra, a blockchain network built around Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), has raised $4 million in pre-seed funding. Finality Capital PartnersDealroom has a profile for this one. What's the endgame? Octra is building infrastructure that gives developers cryptographic tools for secure computation. Its core bet is FHE, which lets applications run mathematical operations on encrypted data without decrypting it.
The approach targets industries that handle sensitive information, including healthcare, finance, and data analytics.
What's new? Alongside the raise, Octra is releasing a public WebAssembly sandbox at sandbox.octra.org, letting developers test FHE applications on its network. The platform supports smart contracts written in OCaml, ReasonML, and C++, and uses a hypergraph data structure for FHE operations, backed by open-source libraries.
What could go wrong? FHE remains computationally heavy, and moving it into production blockchain use is unproven at scale. As a pre-seed company, Octra still has to show developers will build on it.
The signal: Investor interest in privacy-preserving computation is growing, and Octra's raise reflects a bet that encrypted-by-default infrastructure could find demand in regulated, data-heavy sectors.
