Fundraise

Brightspeed raises $1.65B in debt to push fiber network expansion

What's the deal? BrightspeedDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a US fiber broadband builder, has raised $1.65 billion in debt through a financing facility, according to The Wall Street Journal. The capital brings its total funding to $5.9 billion since 2024.

Why now? The raise follows a $575 million bond offering in June 2025 and a $3.7 billion financing round in August 2024. The funds will accelerate deployment of its fiber-optic network across 20 states.

What's the endgame? Brightspeed has passed more than 2.3 million premises with fiber and aims to reach over five million homes and businesses. It is building at a rate of one million new fiber locations a year.

The context: The company's strategy leans on asset-backed bonds and state and federal grants, including the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program. Its target is multi-gig connectivity for underserved communities.

The signal: At $1.65 billion, this ranks in the 98th percentile of all US telecom debt rounds on record. It reflects how capital-heavy fiber buildouts increasingly rely on large debt facilities rather than equity to fund expansion.
