Swiss investor HELVEON takes majority stake in Geneva crèche chain Bubbles

What's the deal? HELVEON, a Swiss investment firm focused on backing local SMEs, has acquired a majority stake in Bubbles Crèches, a premium private daycare network in French-speaking Switzerland. LD Education, the seller, keeps a minority holding, and founder Noémie Benhamou remains at the helm.

Why now? LD Education — a subsidiary of Lavorel Kids, the early-years arm of Groupe Lavorel — is refocusing on German-speaking Switzerland. Selling its Bubbles majority stake fits that strategic realignment.

What's the endgame? Bubbles launched in 2023 and will run eight crèches by the 2026 school year. HELVEON's capital is meant to speed up expansion of the network across Switzerland, building on the foundations set with LD Education.

The chain takes children aged four months to four years, using a Montessori-inspired, bilingual French-English model. It was the first private operator in the sector to strike partnerships with local municipalities to offer subsidised places.

What could go wrong? Growth so far has been steep, and most sites already carry waiting lists. Scaling further under new ownership will test whether the premium model holds up beyond Geneva.

Stanislas Lavorel, head of LD Education, said the firm had built "a solid, dynamic, high-performing platform" and called the daycare market "very buoyant."

The signal: The deal shows continued investor appetite for private early-years care in Switzerland, and a pattern of larger owners handing regional assets to local specialists better placed to grow them.
